What a week in podcasting 🔥
Many of our partners have been announcing exciting new products and services, which we think proves something: podcasting is hotter than ever.
A big area of growth in our industry is in subscription and membership-led models, which allow podcasters to earn revenue directly from their listeners. It seems the rest of the industry is waking up to what we’ve championed for a long time: nurturing strong relationships with your podcast listeners unlocks even greater potential for engagement, and then revenue for your show.
The beauty of these offerings is that it opens up monetization options for shows of all sizes. It doesn’t matter if you have 100 or 100,000 weekly downloads, loyal fans recognize the value of your craft — and will support it through donations and memberships.
We’re lucky at Acast because our position as the biggest independent podcasting company, and champions of the open podcast ecosystem, means we too are able to offer complementary products — which, crucially, allow our 27,000+ podcasters to offer member-led monetization, across every podcast listening app and platform out there.
The great news is, these announcements from Spotify and Apple are complementary, not exclusionary. And Acast is in the perfect position to work with both Apple and Spotify to help smooth the fragmentation that occurs with multiple platforms providing subscription offerings. By working with Acast, we're helping you reach audiences and make money no matter where that audience is, all hosted and distributed on one platform.
As you may know, last year we launched a unique partnership with Patreon, which means podcasters on Patreon are now able to seamlessly and securely distribute patron-only content to audiences across any listening platform. They also get access to even richer data and insight around how their listeners are interacting with their content.
Then, just last month, we announced the arrival of Acast+. This is our extensive suite of subscription features, allowing podcasters to offer paying listeners ad-free streams, and exclusive or bonus content. These are supported by customizable membership tiers, dynamic promo messages, insights dashboards, and more. Here, the difference with our products is that you own the relationship with your listeners and you’ll be able to communicate with them via methods such as email newsletters, and on social.
And you’re not going to want to miss out: some of our founding partners have seen an uplift in monthly revenue of more than 20% while first trialling Acast+ memberships for fans. Partners so far have included Talking Politics in the UK, Somna Med Henrik in Sweden, Tommy, Hector & Laurita in Ireland, and others. Join the waitlist to be the first to access Acast+ here.
We firmly believe every podcaster should be able to grow their show and earn money from it in the way that best suits them. And our own product innovations, coupled with those of our partners, mean only good things for the future of the industry. Podcasting is the place to be.
Just let us know if you have any questions at all by responding to this email or reach out in the chat, and we will be happy to assist.
Your Acast Team.
